Gold foil stamp­ing on black mat­te fin­ish is one of the clas­sic and lux­u­ri­ous crafts for plas­tic card. But in real pro­duc­tion, not every design is suit­able for foil stamp­ing. Despite of gold foil stamp­ing, there are many oth­er gold effects can be sup­port­ed.

Client R sent us a card art­work as fol­low­ing shows. She wants gold foil stamp­ing for all the gold design parts. That’s real­ly a nice design, we could image how beau­ti­ful the real card would be.

But after checked her art­work care­ful­ly, we found sev­er­al prob­lems.

1.The small text.

There are some small text in the front logo design. The text are too small to be seen. Foil stamp­ing is suit­able for large design and text. If use foil stamp­ing for this logo, the text will become sev­er­al black dots that we can­not read­able.

2. The vari­able num­bers.

The num­bers are vari­able and need to be foiled. As you know, we need make foil stamp­ing tem­plate in pro­duc­tion and the tem­plate are sta­ble, we can­not make so many tem­plates for every card with dif­fer­ent num­bers, it will be very expen­sive and unprac­ti­cal.

3. The gold stripe on edge

The gold stripe on the back­side is cling­ing to the card edge, it may get scratch and defect in die cut­ting. Mean­while, the area of this gold stripe is too large, gold maynot be foiled tight­ly for full area.

How to move on this project? As we men­tioned, despite of the gold foil stamp­ing, we can do oth­er beau­ti­ful gold effects. Accord­ing to client R’s art­work, we made a solu­tion for her.

1. Use PMS gold silk print­ing for all the gold parts (logo, gold stripe etc). In this way, the small text can be read and gold stripe will be nice.

2. Use gold rib­bon ther­mal print­ing for the vari­able num­bers. In this way, the num­bers can be shiny gold and the num­ber will be unique on each card.

Pack­aged with cus­tom paper cov­er, the card will be more deluxe and lux­u­ri­ous.
