What is NFC card?

An NFC (Near Field Communication) card is a smart card that allows contactless communication between devices. It works on the principle of electromagnetic induction, allowing data transfer and communication between the card and an NFC-enabled device (such as a smartphone or card reader) when they are brought into close proximity to each other (usually within a few centimeters).

How do NFC cards work?

NFC (Near Field Communication) cards use electromagnetic induction. When an NFC card is brought close to an NFC-enabled device, such as a smartphone or card reader, the two devices establish a connection and exchange data. The frequency of this communication is 13.56 MHz and the range is very short, typically within a few centimeters. The process involves the NFC reader generating a radio frequency (RF) field that powers the NFC card and allows it to transmit data back to the reader. The data exchange can include information such as payment details, access credentials or other types of security data.

What is the NFC card used for?

NFC cards provide a versatile and secure method for contactless communication and data exchange in a variety of everyday scenarios. NFC (Near Field Communication) cards can be used in a variety of applications, including

Contactless payments: NFC cards can be used to make secure, convenient contactless payments at retail stores, restaurants and other businesses equipped with NFC payment terminals.

Access control: NFC cards are commonly used in access control systems for offices, buildings and public transportation, allowing authorized individuals to gain access by simply swiping the card on an NFC reader.

Public transportation: NFC cards can be used to provide seamless access to public transportation systems, allowing passengers to pay fares or board buses quickly and easily.

Data transfer: NFC cards can facilitate data transfer between devices, such as sharing contact information, connecting to Bluetooth devices, or accessing digital content.

What is an NFC business card?

NFC business cards are embedded with NFC chips that allow them to interact with NFC-enabled devices such as smartphones and tablets. When an NFC business card is tapped on a compatible device, it can trigger a variety of actions, such as opening a web page, sharing contact information or launching a specific application.

NFC business cards give professionals a convenient way to interact and share their contacts and digital content with others. They can be programmed to link to personal websites, portfolios, social media profiles or any other digital content the cardholder wants to share with their contacts. This technology provides a modern and memorable way to share information and make a lasting impression on the web and in business interactions.

The available size of an NFC chip to store your data is an important parameter for your choice.

If you need little space for your data, like writing a simple URL, you can use NTAG213 (144 bytes).

If you need more space, like writing a business card (vCard), you can choose NTAG216 chips (888 bytes).

There are also chips with larger memory such as MIFARE 1K, MIFARE DESFire 2K, 4K, 8K, or MIFARE PLUS 2K chips.
